This year I am taking part in Portsmouth Bookfest and as well as putting on an interactive talk about my Into The Woods book, I am also running a series of workshops. If you are able to get to Portsmouth for the events I would love to see you!
Into The Woods: From Stitch to Print
The main event I am putting on for Bookfest is an interactive talk about the journey of turning my Into The Woods fabric book into a printed version. I will be talking about my work as an artist, the specifics of the Woods project and the process of making and photographing it. There will also be time for questions and the opportunity to look through my back catalogue of fabric books.
The talk will be in the beautiful venue of the Round Tower – a 600 year old historic monument, which just happens to be part of our studio complex down here on the Portsmouth seafront!
There are limited tickets available for this event – book yours here!
I’m also putting on a couple of workshops so you can have a go at making your own fabric books. These are a great way to get started with Stitchbooking or making fabric art, with a simple construction and flexible design.
Come and create a ring-bound fabric sketchbook ready for experimentation in this 3 hour workshop. Chose your background page colours and learn how to construct the pages and bind together, and how to add your artwork into this book. By the end of the workshop your sketchbook should be ready to fill and the unique design means you can sew onto the pages without the underside of your work being seen.
2 sizes to chose from (landscape or portrait) and sketchbook will be 6-10 pages depending on time. Beginners are welcome.
Thursday 7th March, 10.00- 13.00
Saturday 9th March, 10.00 – 13.00
Workshops held at Studio 6, Howalls, Portsmouth. To book online visit my shop or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
In this workshop experiment with textiles techniques to fill your fabric sketchbook. Explore traditional techniques such as applique and embroidery in new ways, and learn new processes such as iron-on vinyl and photo collage. Come along with a theme in mind and learn how to turn your ideas into artwork, or come ready to experiment in response to the materials and techniques. Create illustrative images, abstract artwork or journal pages, whatever would like to work on.
If you have attended Workshop 1 you can bring your sketchbook from the previous session. If not you can bring your own fabric book, work on single sheets or purchase a fabric sketchbook on the day.
You are welcome whatever skill level you are – from beginner to expert!
Saturday 16th March 10.00- 15.30
