Spend a day learning the skills of fabric collage while making a piece of textile artwork.
You will make your own version of this seahorse using basic sewing techniques such as applique and embroidery.
Suitable for beginners or people with rusty sewing skills! All of the techniques used here are basic stitches such as running stitch, back stitch and whip stitch and I will walk you through how to do each of these stitches as well as how to use paper templates to cut fabric shapes and how to attach fabric shapes to the background.
All materials will be provided including a hand dyed background, fabric pieces, embroidery thread and beads.
You might not completely finish the image on the day but you will be able to take home any materials that you need to complete it.
This is a small artwork - the final work will be 10x15cm (6x4")
Skills covered:
Hand applique using paper templates
'Drawing' with hand embroidery
French knots
Using beads as texture
Creating movement with running stitch
Hopefully by the end of the day you will feel confident with these techniques and be able to use them in future projects.
